This fast paced exciting sport has long been regarded as terrific training for budding hockey players, specifically in developing hand-eye coordination.  Wayne Gretzky, Steve Larmer, Adam Oates, Paul Coffey, Colin Patterson, Gary Roberts, Brendan Shanahan, Tim Hunter, Paul Kariya and Joe Nieuwendyk are just some of the NHL players that have played Box lacrosse.  Sure, you may be asking, "who the heck are those old guys?" but trust me, they were GOOD!

Lacrosse will help you tremendously in the development of hand - eye coordination, which is a required element for most sports. The sport will help you handle body checking. keep you in shape and you will have lots of fun.  Each year in lacrosse we have new participants at all levels, both boys and girls, from mini-tykes right up to midget.  Both Boys & Girls start as young as four years of age.  Like most sports, we would like to place players on teams with players of equal experience and ability. However, this is not always possible, but every effort is made to teach lesser experienced players the skills required to play the game. The Sherwood Park Titans Lacrosse Association encourages equal playing time for all players and we believe in developing our young players into not only kids who are good at the sport but are helpful in our community.  Lacrosse is a physically demanding sport, and a certain degree of physical contact is allowed. Although there is contact, we experience relatively few injuries in lacrosse because of the excellent equipment available and the strong enforcement of the rules of play, both of which helps to keep our insurance rates low in comparison to other minor sports. Lacrosse has proven to have fewer injuries than baseball and soccer.

So what kind of commitment are you looking at?  Players should expect to play 2 to 3 times per week for both practices and games starting in late March through the end of June or the beginning of July if your team is fortunate enough to get into the provincial championships.  Although we have no restrictions on players playing other sports at the same time as lacrosse, we would certainly not recommend it.  It is not fair to you, your teammates, or your coaches to make a team commitment and not be able to participate in as many team practices and games as possible. Games may be played from Monday night thru Sunday. The younger players get the earliest time slots. Our home arena is the Sherwood Park Arena and Shell. Tournament games are usually played on weekends. It is usually a team decision as to which tournaments your team will attend.  Extra fees are typically levied for tournaments.

2024 Season Age Divisions:  

**If your player is planning to attend tryouts for the 'A' teams, they must be registered and paid in full, including the tryout fee, by February 4, 2024. Money will not be accepted for the 'A' trials at any of the evaluation sessions. There will be no exceptions to this.***
