Current return to play plan from GELC
Letter from our President.
February 19, 2021
Dear Titan Family:
After weeks of planning at GELC meetings, Board Executive Meetings, along with the easing of provincial/AHS restrictions on team sports, we are excited to announce that the Titans will be opening registration for the Spring Box Season on February 19, 2021. There will be plenty more information forthcoming from the GELC on play format, as this will have to be within all guidelines; however this is what we can tell you today.
An initial non-refundable payment of $ 50.00 is due upon registration - this fee goes directly to the ALA for player registration. This fee will also ensure team placement once competition is allowed by AHS, and grant you access to all pre-season socially distanced training that is currently permitted. The Titans are working to offer some of drop-in format practices in March and April (subject to AHS regulations); however registration is required for you to participate due to insurance purposes. All drop-ins that will be ran will be first come/first serve and we will have a registration set up for this. More information on that to follow.
After the initial charge, there will be 3 subsequent payments charged to your credit card: April 15th, May 15th and June 15th to cover the balance of your registration fee. Payments will not be charged to the upcoming payments if restrictions are reintroduced or the season is cancelled. This should negate the need for any refunds to be processed. If you have any questions about the payment plan, please reach out to the registrar and she will be happy to help (email@example.com)
Our programming will be dependent on how many people register. We are prepared to begin with some “Come Try It” events in early March. These groups will be limited to 9 participants with a coach, on a split floor with no intermingling. Floor times would likely be 45 minutes each to allow for minimal interaction with the next group entering the facility. Players are advised to arrive in full-gear and bring an indoor pair of shoes to change into.
The GELC is planning for league play to begin April 20th and run until July 12th.
These dates should allow for the almost the same number of games as in years passed and hopefully allow the provincial government enough time to get to Step 3 of their relaunch program “The Path Forward’ which we anticipate will allow a cohort season to proceed.
We are also hoping to provide some showcase type programming for players interested in stronger competition if allowed under AHS guidelines, more information will be shared when available.
We are extremely excited to get started and need many volunteers to make this year successful. Please reach out to Steve Baker at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Or apply to coach via the form on the website.
We also are in desperate need of a Secretary for the Titans Board as our Registrar is currently handling both roles.
In addition, our 12U Director spot is still vacant. Please reach out to myself at email@example.com if you are interested in helping us out as a volunteer.
Please be assured that we take the health and safety of our athletes and volunteers very seriously.
As such, we are committed to following AHS and ALA guidelines very closely to ensure the best possible environment for everyone.
We will continue to post updates on our website.
Please share with anyone you know that has played lacrosse in the past or maybe interested in trying our great sport.
Yours in lacrosse,
Sherwood Park Titans.
